& Who CANNOT get a chemical peel?
Chemical peels are generally well tolerated and the wide range of peeling agents available means that they are suitable for all skin types.
What medical conditions would preclude a chemical peel?
However, they are not appropriate for certain groups of people:
those whose skin healing response might be compromised – Diabetics, and people with other auto-immune diseases like Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Hepatitis;
those who are taking steroids;
people with cancer or receiving chemotherapy or radiotherapy
those taking photosensitising medications e.g. some antihistamines, antibiotics or oral contraceptives;
people taking Isotretinoin for treating acne
